Australian varsities to woo Indian students

Several racial attacks on Indians in Australia notwithstanding, at least a dozen universities from that country are sending their representatives to India later this week to woo students. They will hold exhibition and interact with potential students in New Delhi on August 16, according to Australian Trade Commission which has launched the initiative. Some of the institutions coming to India are Deakin University, Griffith University, Edith Cowan University, University of South Australia, Macquarie University, Navitas English, and Australian Institute of Public Safety (AIPS). "The exhibition allows us and our partner universities to meet directly with students and parents and provide information and counselling on study abroad and career options," said Tony Cullen, group general manager of Navitas, which is bringing in varsities as a trade partner. Over 50 Indian students have been injured in attacks in Australian cities, most of them being in and around Melbourne, in the last few months. Nearly 100,000 Indian students are studying in Australia, contributing around $2 billion annually to the host country.
